CKL Charter, Part I -- League Pillars

Welcome to the Cavalier Keeper League – otherwise known as the “CKL” – otherwise known as
the best fantasy football league on the planet.

You have agreed to coach a CKL team. Congratulations! This will be a challenging and rewarding hobby for you. If you thought you enjoyed playing fantasy football before… well, you ain’t seen nothin’ yet.

Think of every other fantasy football experience you’ve ever had as the minor leagues. You just got called up to the majors. Now it’s on you to prove your worth through hustle, desire, and skill.

Before we roll along into the nuts and bolts of how the CKL works, you need to understand the three main tenets that serve as pillars for the league. The CKL is governed by these three principles:

ACTIVITY

INVESTMENT and

KNOWLEDGE

Pillar One: ACTIVITY

As a CKL coach, you are expected to be an active, vocal member of the league. This is measured by certain key baselines: attending the draft, managing your team and roster, posting on the league message boards and smack boards, voting in league polls, promptly responding to trade offers, commenting on your league brothers' blog posts, and generally making a point of staying involved. If your activity level ever drops to unsatisfactory levels, you will receive a warning. If you ever commit an egregious act of inactivity (failing to bench a player during his bye week, not attending the draft in any capacity, etc.), you are subject to removal from the league without warning. This is a serious fantasy football league, and we expect all of our coaches to be serious about maintaining competitive integrity through constant, unwavering activity.

Pillar Two: INVESTMENT

You won’t enjoy this league to its fullest if you are not fully invested. Specifically, you must want to win, and clearly be trying to win every game, every year, without fail. Throwing games or committing collusion with another coach will never be tolerated. This is a serious fantasy football league, and we expect all of our coaches to be serious about competing to win. Our coaches must display a constant, unwavering hunger to win, without fail.

Pillar Three: KNOWLEDGE

Only being active and invested is never enough. This league will still chew you up and spit you out. The third principle of the CKL is being knowledgeable about fantasy football; knowledgeable enough to be able to target good players and build a winning team. It’s on you to prove your mettle as a fantasy football coach. This is a serious fantasy football league, and we expect all of our coaches to be good at playing fantasy football. Our coaches must have a short- and long-term view of the their teams, and must make it a point to stay dialed in to the NFL to the point where they can make educated, smart talent acquisition decisions at every turn.
