Week 1 Notes

A few things I want to share based on fiddling with the results from Week 1 of the 2016 CKL season.

Only Ryan, Nathan, and Kendall had a top ten performer and lost their Week 1 contest.

Patrick, Joe and Russ managed to overcome their albatross necklaces and earn a win. As seen above, they each had a top ten performer to help.

Yado is the only losing team in this list. I guess the best TE/K package in the league still isn't good enough for a win.

Circling the drain with two worst-of categories is a recipe for a loss, which is exactly what happened to Kirk and Yado. Chad and Patrick still earned wins despite lackluster performances at RB and TE, respectively. RIP Keenan Allen.

Draft Thoughts - Round 3 through 5

Today, let's knock out the rest of the Friday night portion of the draft event.

  • Mini tight end run in the first half of this round sees Walker, Fleener, and Barnidge go.
  • Josh Gordon goes to Paul, evidence of his perceived upside, as he won't be playing the first four weeks. And heck, I assume the guy could fail another drug test before Week 5, right?
  • I like Gio to Russ---I think he'll do very well for The Stick.
  • Homer pick by Joe with Kevin White. Sounds like he's had a pretty rough training camp/preseason, though. Doubt he draws a start for quite some time.
  • And there goes Chad, with the first IDP off the board. In the third! Chad has his own strategy. Not only is it the complete opposite of mine, you also can't argue it doesn't work. Chad has had one of the better runs of late.
  • C'mon now I know you all are jealous of my Marvin Jones selection.

  • Chad doubles down on his early IDP approach with Lavonte David. No doubt that guy is a stud. Chad has certain guys that are just "his guys." I like that.
  • Ditto for J.J. Watt to Big Joe.
  • Rookie with the nice snag of hot rookie (har har) WR Sterling Shepard. Probably has a chance to finish second to Zeke for RoY.
  • Love Yado's scoop of Julius Thomas. Dude has top three tight end upside.
  • Nice commentary on your QB, Russ.
  • Three more IDPs, Arian Foster, and Kendall's epic Palmer meltdown highlight the latter sections of this round.

  • I think Norris did well to get Rivers at this point. I think he's a good weekly QB start.
  • Corey also looks good with Diggs. Even with the QB change in Minnesota, Diggs looks like good value here.
  • I hope Jimmy Graham can provide something for Paul, and I'm sure it's fun to have a local guy on your team, but man, patella tendon tears are no joke.
  • Patrick gets his absolutely critical handcuff of Bell, and he didn't overpay for it. Nicely done.
  • I like Tyrod, but this smells a touch early for Yado.
  • Likewise with Steve Smith. Although I guess you should never count that guy out.
